Examination & Promotion
![]() We follow a well defined annual scheme of students for all classes. The scheme of studies for classes IX to XII is provided by the Central Board of Secondary Education at relevant subjects. However, we exercise a degree of freedom in choosing the yearly curriculum and syllabus for classes II to VIII with a view to making learning an enjoyable experience for children on the one hand and to cover the selected courses intensively on the other.
In today's educational parlance the term assessment signifies an objective measurement of children's grasp, perception and understanding of what has been administered to them by way of curriculum and syllabus within a given period of time. In other words, it is the assessment of their understanding and assimilation of knowledge and of their ability to relate it to the real life situations locally and globally. It is our endeavor to make our 'examinations' and 'tests' as objective as possible in order to lend credence to our assessment system. Given below are the details of assessment systems for various classes.
Pre School classes (Pre Nursery to Class 1)
The annual curriculum for these classes comprises of various skills oriented activities explicity chosen to shape and monitor children's growth and development physical, cognitive, communicative, social emotional and aesthetic. Children acquire these skills at their own pace during the course of the year and teachers monitor and record their progress informally at appropriate times. The progress is recorded in the form of grades. AT the end of the year teachers write comprehensive reports ton children's effort and achievement in various skills. By and large, children are promoted to the next class.
Primary Classes (II to IV)
The course of studies at this level is selective and comprehensive and the emphasis is still on the "learning-by-doing" approach to classroom instruction. However, formal assessment of children's academic performance commences at this stage in the form of Unit Tests, Two terminal Examinations and the Annual Examination. Continuous evaluation of children's performance forms the basis of this system of assessment. For promotion to the next class, credits in the tests and examinations carry weight in the following manner:
Unit Tests 30%
Term Exams 30%
Annual Examination 40%
For a clear promotion to the next class, a student must score at least 40% in each subject (worked out on the basis of credits in the Unit Tests, Term Exams and the Annual Examination)
Middle and Senior School Classes (V to IX and IX)
The course of studies is selective and comprehensive for classes V to VII and for classes IX and XI, it is as per the C.B.S.E guidelines. The weightage accorded to Unit Tests, Term Exams and the Annual Examination is the same as enumerated above for the Primary classes. For promotion to the next class, the same norms as given above for Primary classes are applicable. It is mandatory to secure a cumulative credit of 40% marks in theory in subjects involving practical examination and to pass the practical examination separately.
Board Examinee Classes (X & XII)
In order to become eligible for appearing in the Board examination students of classes X and XII are required to attain the minimum qualifying level of academic achievement worked out on the basis of Unit Tests, Term Exams and the Pre Board Examination. The weightage given to each is as follows:
Unit Tests 30%
Term Exams 30%
Pre Board Exam 40%
A minimum of 40% marks in each subject is the qualifying marks for eligibility to appear in the Board examination in subjects where practical examination is required. It is mandatory to pass in both practical and theory separately. Students unable to qualify for the Board Examination will be issued Admit Cards for appearing in the Board examination.
Cheating and using unfair means while writing tests and examinations is deemed a serious offense. A student found guilty of using unfair means in exams and tests will be awarded zero in the concerned subject.
